Science World Tickets (2026)

The shop asks for a date, not a time. There is no timed-entry system, no fixed slot to miss and no advance-booking requirement published anywhere on the site, so buying on the morning is a legitimate strategy and buying a week out changes nothing about the price. What advance purchase buys you is the certainty that the date is open, which is the real risk here: the museum closes on individual days for private events and publishes those closures rather than turning people away at the door.

Groups of ten or more are the exception to all of this. The museum does not put a group rate in the shop: "Parties of 10+ receive special group rates. Please email our team at reserve@scienceworld.ca." No figure is published, so a group organiser cannot budget from the website and has to write.

Doors, and the 15 minutes nobody reads

Opening hours are 10 AM to 5 PM daily, and the museum states that "Doors close 15 minutes before closing time." A ticket bought at 4:50 PM is a ticket for tomorrow. If you are arriving late in the day, the useful comparison is that the museum recommends at least two hours inside, so anything after 3 PM is a partial visit at the full price.

The free list is short, specific and generous where it applies. Children two and under pay nothing and need no ticket. Self-identifying Indigenous people are admitted free, in the museum's own words: "We're delighted to offer complimentary access to self-identifying Indigenous people." One adult aide or caregiver supervising a visitor with a disability is admitted free at a one-to-one ratio, arranged at the admissions desk.

Members are free by definition.

What is not on that list is a free public day. Several Vancouver institutions run one and Science World does not; the closest thing in the city is the Vancouver Art Gallery with its free first-Friday evening, and the free options that need no ticket at all are collected on the free things to do page.

The discount sites, and what they are really selling

Search for Science World tickets and a deals site is usually the fifth result. Nothing on the museum's own pages confirms a third-party discount, no reseller is named anywhere on the site, and the ticketing shop is the museum's own subdomain. We do not link the deal aggregators, and the honest position is that if a price below CA$37.50 exists for a single adult admission, the museum does not publish it and cannot be held to it.

The one genuine saving on the site is the membership route below.

Memberships

A Family Membership is promoted and no price for it is published, which is the biggest single gap in Science World's ticketing information. Members get complimentary admission and early access to the dome at 9:30 AM, half an hour before the public. For a visiting family the membership question is unanswerable from the website; for a local one it is the only route that beats CA$126 for a family of four.

This is where the absence of a family rate bites. Two adults and two primary-school children pay CA$126, which is more than a day on the water and about the same as a North Shore excursion for two. Set that against the museum's own two-hour recommendation before you buy.

One caveat that changes the last two rows. The Wonder Gallery, the space built for under-sixes and the room holding the nursing facilities, was published as closed from 9 September 2026 with no reopening date. A family whose whole reason for coming is a three-year-old should check that before paying two adult admissions, because the toddler is free and the adults are not.

Admission covers every gallery open on the day, the live demonstrations, and the films. That last point overturns the commonest assumption about this building: the films are not an extra. The museum states it plainly, "All films are free with Science World admission!", and they run in the Science Theatre on Level 2 rather than in the dome.

The dome itself is the thing your ticket does not currently buy. The Dome Theatre is temporarily closed, so the 400-seat OMNIMAX experience that older guides price as an add-on is not running and there is nothing to add on. Food, and what closes

The restaurant and concession keep different hours from the museum, and the Triple O's outlet was published as closed for renovation from 9 September to the end of October 2026. Assume you are bringing lunch or eating in Chinatown or Yaletown afterwards rather than counting on a hot meal inside.

A significant share of the advice about buying Science World tickets tells you to bundle the attraction into a city pass. There is no such pass. CityPASS lists seventeen destinations and the only Canadian one is Toronto.

Go City lists twenty-eight destinations and none of them is in Canada at all; gocity.com/vancouver returns a 404. Blog posts and marketplace listings describing a Go City Vancouver Pass that includes Capilano, Grouse Mountain and the Aquarium are describing a product that is not sold.

What does exist is narrower and does not include this building. Destination Vancouver's attractions group points visitors at each attraction's own site rather than selling a single ticket, and the only genuine multi-attraction bundle confirmed from an official source in this city is the Vanier Park Pass, which covers three museums across town and not Science World. Science World has no weekly closed day, which makes it a rare Vancouver attraction that opens on Mondays without qualification. What it does have is occasional whole-day closures for private events, published in advance: 8 and 10 September 2026 were both listed when this page was checked. There is also construction to plan around rather than avoid, with the main entrance under works from 9 to 22 September 2026 and an alternate entrance in use, and Centre Stage shows relocating to the Science Theatre from 22 to 24 September.

If the date you wanted is closed, the substitutions that hold up for the same audience are the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park for younger children, and the Museum of Anthropology for anyone over about twelve who liked the idea of a serious collection. Both are covered on the museums and galleries hub with their own closed days, which do not coincide with this one.

Science World is the cheapest paid attraction in the city to reach, and that changes the value calculation more than any discount would. Main Street-Science World is an Expo Line SkyTrain station at the building's door, so the marginal cost of arriving from a downtown hotel is one transit fare rather than a taxi or a tour seat. If you drive, the museum publishes six wheelchair-accessible paid parking spaces and nothing else about parking rates on the pages we read, so the on-street and lot rates in that part of False Creek are not something this page can quote as sourced. The honest advice is to take the train: the station is under cover, which matters between October and April, and it puts you at the entrance rather than a walk away.

Timing the arrival against the ticket

A ticket bought for a date is valid whenever you turn up on that date, and the only hard cut-off is the doors closing 15 minutes before 5 PM. Since the museum recommends at least two hours, the last genuinely worthwhile entry is around 2:45 PM. Buying at 4 PM for the same day is paying a full adult rate for forty-five minutes.

Several things Science World provides are free but are not part of the online purchase, so they only happen if you ask when you arrive. Caregiver admission is one: one adult aide or caregiver supervising a visitor with a disability is admitted free at a one-to-one ratio, arranged at the desk rather than online. Indigenous visitors self-identify at the desk for complimentary access on the same basis.

The sensory provision is also a desk transaction. The museum keeps free noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses and sensory toys at Admissions, publishes a Visual Guide and Sensory Map produced with the Canucks Autism Network, and runs 25-minute Quiet Space sessions in the Science Theatre a few times a day alongside its Sensory-Friendly Mornings. Wheelchairs and strollers are free to borrow, first come, with identification left as collateral.

One published warning

Science World states something most attractions leave unsaid: "On rare occasions, medical devices (e.g. pacemakers, hearing aids, insulin pumps) could be affected through direct interaction with live-demonstrations." If that applies to anyone in your group, it is a reason to watch the demonstrations rather than join them, not a reason to skip the ticket. Buy the official ticket, on the day, after checking that the date is open. There is nothing to compare, no queue to skip and no pass to bundle it into, and the only decision that saves money is whether the youngest member of your party is under three. If the answer is that everyone is over twelve, the honest recommendation is to spend the same money at the Museum of Anthropology or the Vancouver Art Gallery and walk past the dome on the seawall for nothing.
